Luz Mabel Lumbí Rizo was 20 months old, sleeping in her bed, when at 11 p.m. one to three Contras shot and threw grenades into her home. This happened on the 8th of December 1986, in the community La Unión, between El Cuá and San José de Bocay in the department of Jinotega. The attack left her father and 38-day-old sister dead and five members of the family wounded. A bullet had shattered Luz Mabel's right arm.

Luz Mabel Lumbí Rizo tenía veinte meses y estaba dormida en su cama, cuando a las once de la noche, uno a tres Contras dispararon y lanzaron granadas hacia adentro de su hogar. Esto sucedió el ocho de diciembre de 1986, cerca de la comunidad de La Unión, que se halla entre El Cuá y San José de Bocay, en el Departamento de Jinotega. El ataque resultó en la muerte de su padre y de su hermanita de treinta y ocho días y dejó heridos a cinco miembros de la familia. Una bala había destrozado el brazo derecho de Luz Mabel.
